Preemie Octopus Pattern

I have a new pattern for you! How exciting.

I am really proud of it. You can make cute toys for family or friends and they are perfect as donations to baby units! Dont you just love the way the pastel colours have panned out. I love the subtle varigation which is so difficult to acheive in crochet and I love how each tentacle is a different colour. For those of you who would like to know, this is just the standard baby yarn from poundland! It us very soft and the varigation is lovely. Anyways, time for the pattern!
I will put the number of stitches you should have at the end of each round in brackets.

Round 1. Start by crocheting 8 singles into a Magic Circle. Ss into the first single to close the round.

Round 2. Chain 1, then Sc twice into each stitch. Ss into the first single to finish the round. (16)

Round 3. Chain 1, then Sc twice into the first stitch and once into the second stitch. Repeat to end. Ss into the first single to finish the round. (24)

Round 4. Chain 1, then Sc twice into the first stitch and once into the next 2 stitches stitch. Repeat to end. Ss into the first single to finish the round. (32)

Round 5. Chain 1, then Sc twice into the first stitch and once into the next 3 stitches stitch. Repeat to end. Ss into the first single to finish the round. (40)

Round 6. Chain 1, then Sc twice into the first stitch and once into the next 4 stitches stitch. Repeat to end. Ss into the first single to finish the round. (48)

Round 7 to round 15. Chain 1, then Sc into each stitch once. Ss into the first single to finish the round. (48)

Round 16. Chain 1. SC2tog then Sc in the next 4 stitches. Repeat to end. Ss into the first single to finish the round. (40)

Round 17 to round 22. Chain 1, then Sc into each stitch once. Ss into the first single to finish the round. (40)

Round 23. SC2tog then Sc in the next 3 stitches. Repeat to end. Ss into the first single to finish the round. (32)

Round 24 to Round 26. Chain 1, then Sc into each stitch once. Ss into the first single to finish the round. (32)

*If you want to add eyes or even a face, you should do this part now. I just embroidered some eyes and a smile on.

Round 27. SC2tog then Sc in the next 2 stitches. Repeat to end. Ss into the first single to finish the round. (24)

Round 28. SC2tog then Sc in the next stitch. Repeat to end. Ss into the first single to finish the round. (16)

Now we make the tentacles.

Round 29. Sc into the front loop only. Chain 33. In the 4th chain from the hook, and every other chain until to you reach the end, Dc 3 times. This will create the spiral of the tentacles. When you have reached the end (you should have done around 90) Sc into the front loop only of the next stitch. You should then repeat this 7 more times to create all 8 tentacles.

Round 30. Sc into the back loops of round 28. Ss into first stitch to finish round. (16)

At this point you should stuff the octopus to make him/her as plump as you like.

Round 31. Sc2tog 8 times. Ss into first stitch to finish round. (8)

Round 32. Sc2tog 4 times. Ss into first stitch to finish round. (4)

To finish, cut the yarn and sew up the final tiny gap to seal the octopus.

Stand back and admire your handy work.
