A Very Pinterest Christmas Week 2 – Candle

Today I am popping in to share with you a candle that I have decorated!

It was inspired by this photograph initially.

No the origin of this image is actually an old hobbycraft tutorial, but unfortunately I cannot find its origin. However the article where I found the image can be found here, and contains links to a couple of different tutorials for christmassy candles. On further surfing, here and here are links to a few similar tutorials.

I really love this simple idea – such a cute little decoration! I cant wait to light it up when december hits!

Have you ever had a go at decorating candles? Share your pics or links in the comments! I would love to take a peek!

A Very Pinterest Christmas Week 1 – Buttons

For my first foray into Christmas DIY home decor a la pinterest, I bring you my take on this lovely Christmas Wreath canvas.

You can find the tutorial here from Michelle at Crafty Morning.

This is my take on it.

I must say, this is such a wonderful and simple tutorial – and what a fab result. It makes a fab craft for kids but also a wonderful sophisticated decoration for your home and it uses minimal materials. You could easily make a couple and hand them out as hostess gifts! I am sure anyone would love to receive them! Or perhaps, you could get each child to make a different shape? Maybe a tree, or a snow man or a reindeer. The posibilities are endless! I just love it!

Gifting Rundown Part 2 – Oils and Waxes

Today is the second part of my chridtmas gifting run down! Oils and Waxes. In this one I will tell you about carious smelly nice things I made for my family!

I made a couple of jars of body scrub/butter. You can find the recipes here and here respectively.

I made some tins of beard balm – this was my own recipe.

I will teach you it soon! Just keep your eyes peeled for the simplest beard balm recipe ever!

And I made Candles!

Festively spiced candles with vanilla, cinnamon, ginger and clove!

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!

I love snow. I think its wonderful. I just wish there was more of it! I decided that it was about time I bought some of it inside. So I made this cute little snow globe!

In fact, I made 4. Well, that’s not strictly true. I made 2 of them. My partner made the other 2, under my guidance. I made them using DAS white air dry clay.

I started by creating a disk of clay that was just smaller than the opening of the jar. I  then smoothed out the edges.

After this I buried 2 pipe brush trees into the clay, adding extra clay to secure them down.

Then, I constructed the snow man, using a cocktail stick to hold the pieces of the snowman together. I then left it to dry for about 30 hours.

The ticket time is only 24 hours to dry but I had to wait for my partner to return from work to complete them, so they got a bit longer!

When he returned, we added faces and buttons to the snowmen with Sharpies, then varnished them with Do Crafts Acrylic Glitter Varnish and glued them to the undersides of the lids.Once Dried, It was time to construct the actual globe! How exciting. For this, we filled a clean jar with baby oil, about 1/2 cm from the top of the jar. Then we added 3 tbsp of white glitter (make sure the flakes of glitter are large – on my first attmept we used fine glitter and instead of being pretty, the mixture of oil and glue turned to a fudgey mess!). Place the lid onto the jar, plunging the decorations into it. Ideally, there should be a little overflow. This will make sure that there are no air bubbles inside the jar. Screw it on tight and check for leakages. if you are really concerned about leakages, you can put a little hot glue around the edge of the lid before you screw it on, but I did not find that this was necessary.

And there we are! Aren’t they lovely! So festive and magical! To finish I wanted to use a circle of glitter fabric and some white and red twine but unfortumately I struggled to find a way to stick the fabric to the lid, and because it was quite thick it did not drape very nicely. So I just left it bare.

Have you made snow globes before? They are a great craft to try with your children if you have any. Children love snow globes so they can also be a wonderful Christmas gift keepsake!

Thats Christmas for 16

Well, it would be if not for the fact you only get 7 tiles per round…

Anyway, today I am popping by to share with you some scrabble tile decorations I have made recently!

The most challenging part was screwing little eyelets into the top to hang them on. My partner made it look easy but me being cack handed, I only managed 3 in the time it took him to do 12!

Isnt there just something wonderfil about embossing powder! Its like magic!

The cat found the buttons very exciting.

She decided that they were hers and picked one up. Cue 10 minutes of me chasing her around in a panic hoping she hadnt swallowed it! Little nightmare!
