Gifting Rundown Part 2 – Oils and Waxes

Today is the second part of my chridtmas gifting run down! Oils and Waxes. In this one I will tell you about carious smelly nice things I made for my family!

I made a couple of jars of body scrub/butter. You can find the recipes here and here respectively.

I made some tins of beard balm – this was my own recipe.

I will teach you it soon! Just keep your eyes peeled for the simplest beard balm recipe ever!

And I made Candles!

Festively spiced candles with vanilla, cinnamon, ginger and clove!

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!

I love snow. I think its wonderful. I just wish there was more of it! I decided that it was about time I bought some of it inside. So I made this cute little snow globe!

In fact, I made 4. Well, that’s not strictly true. I made 2 of them. My partner made the other 2, under my guidance. I made them using DAS white air dry clay.

I started by creating a disk of clay that was just smaller than the opening of the jar. I  then smoothed out the edges.

After this I buried 2 pipe brush trees into the clay, adding extra clay to secure them down.

Then, I constructed the snow man, using a cocktail stick to hold the pieces of the snowman together. I then left it to dry for about 30 hours.

The ticket time is only 24 hours to dry but I had to wait for my partner to return from work to complete them, so they got a bit longer!

When he returned, we added faces and buttons to the snowmen with Sharpies, then varnished them with Do Crafts Acrylic Glitter Varnish and glued them to the undersides of the lids.Once Dried, It was time to construct the actual globe! How exciting. For this, we filled a clean jar with baby oil, about 1/2 cm from the top of the jar. Then we added 3 tbsp of white glitter (make sure the flakes of glitter are large – on my first attmept we used fine glitter and instead of being pretty, the mixture of oil and glue turned to a fudgey mess!). Place the lid onto the jar, plunging the decorations into it. Ideally, there should be a little overflow. This will make sure that there are no air bubbles inside the jar. Screw it on tight and check for leakages. if you are really concerned about leakages, you can put a little hot glue around the edge of the lid before you screw it on, but I did not find that this was necessary.

And there we are! Aren’t they lovely! So festive and magical! To finish I wanted to use a circle of glitter fabric and some white and red twine but unfortumately I struggled to find a way to stick the fabric to the lid, and because it was quite thick it did not drape very nicely. So I just left it bare.

Have you made snow globes before? They are a great craft to try with your children if you have any. Children love snow globes so they can also be a wonderful Christmas gift keepsake!

Thats Christmas for 16

Well, it would be if not for the fact you only get 7 tiles per round…

Anyway, today I am popping by to share with you some scrabble tile decorations I have made recently!

The most challenging part was screwing little eyelets into the top to hang them on. My partner made it look easy but me being cack handed, I only managed 3 in the time it took him to do 12!

A Wreath of Buttons

I absolutely love using buttons on christmas cards. here I have created a selection of button wreath christmas cards.

Isnt there just something wonderfil about embossing powder! Its like magic!

The cat found the buttons very exciting.

She decided that they were hers and picked one up. Cue 10 minutes of me chasing her around in a panic hoping she hadnt swallowed it! Little nightmare!

Arent they cute! They are so small and pom pom-y! and they are super easy to make!

All you need is yarn and a toilet roll tube. Another one of my many pinterest wins!

Rustic Christmas Cards

I recently made these cards. you will have already seen that I pre cut all of the shapes I used last week to make production lining them easier. as it was, I cut way more than I needed, so I have popped the left overs in a little bag for later use. I made 2 designs – here are the close ups:

For both cards I used gold ink and gold embossing powder to create the sentiments. I really would like to get some more gold embossing powder. The one I currently is tinsel gold, but this isnt as smooth as just plain old gold as the particles are larger.
The papers came from a forever friends paper stack that I got in a large ebay bundle of craft bits, as did the stamps.

Cute Christmas Cards

Dont you just love a good paper pack.

I went into the works and whilst in there I found a wonderful christmas paper pack with little owls all over it. So I picked it up and as I went to pay I noticed that next to the till they had matching ribbons. So I bought 4 rolls.

These are the cards I made using them. I cut out the shapes using one of my sizzix cartridge dies. I then used some double sided adhesive to craft a patchwork from the paper shapes. I then cut it into strips and mounted it onto the card, added a sentiment and ribbon and hey presto, a very pretty card.

My kitty was very amused with the sticky off cuts. That is, until the got it truck to her whiskers, at which point she weth into melt down. My partner had to chase her down to get it off her. She wasnt best pleased…
