What a year!

Goodness. What a year 2018 has been. I feel like it has been my best year so far. And here is why.

1. I lost 20kg. I started the year at 114kg and now I am 94kg. I started the year in a size 24/26 trousers, and now I am a 16. I havent been a size sixteen since I was 16 (thats a decade ago!) So I am really proud of myself. I am the lightest I have been my entire adult like.

2. We have booked our wedding venue! We have a date to work towards and a location and everything is starting to gain momentum! Yahooo.

3. I made a huge effort to get better at photography. I think my photography skills have improved massively this year.

4. I also made a massive effort to learn about design and new techniques – the quality of my stitching has come on a long way and I have learnt many new skills. Filet, Brioche, Lace, etc. I made my first, and second and third sweater, and I now feel like I could tackle anything.

5. I got a new job! Which I will be starting on january 14th. I am super excited as this is the start of my dream career. I decided at the beginning of the year that I wanted to move on in the business, so I did everything I could to improve my skills and experiences. And here I am.

When I think back to why I had such a great year, I think it comes down to one thing – I didnt set myself lots of goals. Instead I just decided that this would be the year I got it done. This would be the year of progress. And it was.

And how about 2019?

Well, 2019 will be the year of new beginnings and learning. I will be heading off to signaller training school to start a year long apprenticeship to qualify as a signaller with Network Rail. It will be a lot of hard work. Lots of exams, simulations, studying. So my goal this year is just to learn as much as I can and enjoy the start of my new career.

I am also hopeful that by the end of 2019 we will have got all of our finances in order and will have purchased or begun the legal processes of purchasing a house.

And in 2019, I need to make a start on wedding flower making! It will be a mammoth understaking but exciting at the same time!

New Year – New Me?

Happy new year to all of my wonderful followers! I hope you had some wonderful celebrations! I was at work all night, and let me tell you – London Victoria is a peculiar places after 3am on new years day. Its honestly like a disaster relief center! People stumbling about looking lost, hundreds of people huddled up asleep on the floor, people crying, with their hair and makeup all over the place, their clothes all dicheveled and generally looking confused and forlorn. Its odd.

Anyways, where has the year gone! I feel like it has just flown by! As I talked about yesterday, I had lots of plans for this year, some of which I managed to fulfil and some which I didn’t, but all the same I feel like it has been a successful year for me. So now it is time for me to set myself some goals for the coming year. This year I tried to think of realistic goals, and I will be tracking some of them using my bullet journal.

1.       Blogging Goals – I am aiming high this year! I am hoping to hit 10,000 views. Thats over 6000 more than last year, so its a big goal, but with a bit of dedication I know I can do it! To this end, if there is anything you would like to see more of, let me know! I am always happy to receive feedback! I am also hoping to hit 100 subscribed followers. I have around 30 at the mo so its another big goal, but again, with hard work I can hopefully share my ideas with lots more people!

2.       Crafting Goals – I have a couple of crafting goals. The first is to finally get around to taking up spinning – I bought myself a drop spindle and some fibre back in march but have still yet to spin any yarn, so I really would love to finally get started! My second goal is to crochet 6 miles (tracked Via Knit Meter. This year I managed 4.07, so hopefully I can improve upon that performance this year. My third goal is to learn some basic knitting skills. And my goal is to have created at least 12 new crochet patterns by the end of the year.

3.        Lifestyle Goals – My main goal here is to reach a goal weight of 80kg. I started my weight loss journey in October, and weighed 114kg. So far, I have lost 8kg, which is around 1.2 Stone. To achieve my goal weight, I hope to change my eating habits for good and to find some form of exercise that I enjoy. I am hoping to learn to ride a bike so I can cycle with my partner, who loves to cycle).

4.       Financial Goals – Within the next couple of months I hope to clear most of my debts – I still have a few debts left over from when I was a student which I have been unable to make a dent in due to the terrible pay of my old job. But now I am in a proper job that pays me fairly, I can really start to get through that debt quite quickly. Once that debt is clear, I hope to start saving a significant amount of money per month, to begin to save to buy a house!

5.       Relationship Goals – As you will probably already be aware, my partner proposed to me back in October! Yay! We had always wanted to get matching engagement rings custom made for us, so within the next few months I would like to have that ring on my finger. By the end of the year, it is also our hope that we will have booked a venue and will therefore have a set date, even though we do not wish to marry for a few more years.

6.       Hobby Goals – It is my aim to broaden my film and literature horizons this year. With that in mind, I am going to aim to read 15 new books and watch 15 new films this year! I really love watching films and reading, but rarely get time to do either of them, so this year I wish to find the time to do them!

What are your goals? I would love to know!

Did I Do It?

You may remember that a month or so ago or so, I shared with you some little mini goals to aim for by the end of the year. So now it is the last day of the year, I should go through them and reflect.

1. Complete or frog all historic WIP’s – This was an easy one. I finished two WIP’s and frogged the other 2.

2. Organise my Bullet Journal – I have made the pages and they are ready to be used. Keep your eyes peeled for a post about the journal.

3. Looose 10kg – I have lost 8. I am not super upset about this as christmas is a notoriously difficult time to even maintain your weight, so the fact that I list 1kg over the christmas period is actually a great acheivment.

4. Finish GSE Christmas blanket – I am almost there! I really wanted to have it done, so I am still gonna attempt o finish it in the next few days!

5. Reach 20 published patterns! – Unfortunately I havent managed this one either. So far I have published 12 patterns. I still have 3 already ready, I just need to write them up. I also still have about 5 more ideas in my head. Unfortunately I just never found any time  to get them out.

6. Reach 80 complete projects in my Ravelry library – I have made it to exactly 80.

7. Reach 3000 views  on my blog – This is agonizing. As I write this, with 3 hours and 9 minutes left of 2016, I sit at 2977 views! So perhaps, with a stroke of luck, I will make it!

8. Crochet 4 miles (tracked on Knitmeter) – I made it! I crocheted 4.07 miles in total!

I also made some goals at the beginning of the year, which were as follows:

1. I would still like to learn the elements song – I still havent managed to do this. One day, I will learn!

2. Travel to a new City in Europe – unfortunately, due to my working situation, we havent been able to book ourselves to go on holiday yet. But I did go to Manchester for my birthday and Liverpool for work, so perhaps I can tick this one off?

3. Take steps to start a career. I no longer wish to work in television. I have decided I would love to work on the railways. I have been applying for conductor and platform assistant roles, and hope to use this as the beginning of a journey towards becoming a train driver or CCTV operator for TFL or the British Transport Police. – whilst it took me longer than I had hoped, I managed to get a job on the railways. I only started a month ago, so am still getting into the swing of things. But I am definately happier and healthier now.

4. If I manage to get a new job, I would love to be able to start saving a substantial amount of money to buy a house with my partner. – Unfortunately, as I started only a month ago, I havent managed to start saving.

5. As a treat for getting this new job, I wish to make a start on my chest piece – a huge collage of studio ghibli awesomeness! – similarly, since I have only had 1 pay cheque from my new job I havent managed to organise this yet.

6. I would love to learn to embroider! I have had all of the stuff ready for a couple of months now, but I keep not getting around to it! This year I will start and hopefully finish my contemporary stitch sampler that I have been planning! – I started. And I hated it. So I sold off the bits I had on ebay. I am glad I gave it a go. Now I know it is not for me.

At the end of my post last new years, I said that I felt like 2016 could be a good year for me. Like it would be the year my life really started to fall into place. Well, I think I was right. Whilst some terrible things have happened this year (brexit/trump/terrorism/my most beloved musician passing) personally, it has been a life changing year! I mean, I got a new job, I became engaged, and, best of all, we got a cat! And what a beauty she is!

How have you done this year? Did you manage to acheive your goals? Dont worrk if you didnt, as long as you had a happy year!

Its The Most Hectic Time Of The Year…

First of all, I just want to say sorry for the lack of posts! As it gets to this time of year, I seem to do a lot more crafting, but unfortunately, I cant tell you about it!

I started my new job properly on Monday. Today I was on a 12 hour shift! I guess christmas creeped up on me this year, Between now and christmas I only have 3 days off! And only one of those falls before the date on which I need to hand over most of the gifts! Looks like I better get cracking! I have written a priority list so I know exactly what needs doing by when. Believe me, once Christmas is over I will be hitting you with many many things that I have made!

Anyway, I thought I would pop in and share with you some of the goals I set myself a few months back to reach by the end of the year, which I have yet to reach.

1. Complete or frog all historic WIP’s – I have a box full of half finished things. I would like to startvthe new year on a clear slate with no baggage left over from 2016.

2. Organise my Bullet Journal – I decided that I would like to design all of my own pages so by the end of the year all pages need to be ready so I can begin it on Jan 1st.

3. Looose 10kg. I have already lost 7 since I started about 2 months ago. Only 3 to go.

4. Finish GSE Christmas blanket. I am over half way through joining all of my squares together. I had hoped to finish it by december but life got in the way!

5. Reach 20 published patterns! So far I have published 12 patterns.I have 3 already ready, I just need to write them up. I have about 5 more ideas in my head too. I just need to get them out.

6. Reach 80 complete projects in my Ravelry library. I have 76 right now.

7. Reach 3000 views  on my blog! I have 2805 so far so this shouldnt be too difficult, as long as I can get my act together and publish a few more bits!

8. Crochet 4 miles (tracked on Knitmeter). I am currently sitting on 3.24 miles with 4 more christmas presents to make.

I think I should be able to hit most of the targets. I have already acheived many of my targets for the year, so its just this last few I need to polish off! Wish me luck!

Happy New Year Everyone!

Wow! So this little blog has been going for over a year now! Thank you to everyone who has supported me and read what I have to say! I love you all!
I hope you have all had a wonderful holiday season! And I hope this new year is a good one.

Last year, I made the following Resolutions:

No 1. Learn the element song (Hopefully on my ukulele)

No 2. Travel to Finland

No 3. Overcome My Fear Of Flying – I have never flown and find the whole idea pretty petrifying!

No 4. Work really hard in my CBT Therapy so I can take control of my anxiety disorder

No 5. Find work in television. In order to give myself a better chance, I will make a short film a month which I can add to  my show reel.

Whilst I haven’t achieved all of them, I would say 3 out of 5 isn’t bad. This year I have traveled not only to Finland but also to Germany. I have learnt a lot about their culture and little nuances. I have most definately overcome my fear of flying – on my first ever flight I was petrified to sit anywhere near a window, I felt sick, I was crying and panicking. But it turned out to be amazing!  On the way back from Finland,  we got hit by lightning and it was the coolest thing ever! I even considered how cool it would be to be a flight attendant! On my way to Germany I was super excited to be on the plane – I ever took a window seat! It was so cool! And finally, my anxiety has got so much better. I have my moments, but the CBT therapy I undertook really helped me to take control of my emotions.

So what about this year? Here are my resolutions:

1. I would still like to learn the elements song

2. Travel to a new City in Europe

3. Take steps to start a career. I no longer wish to work in television. I have decided I would love to work on the railways. I have been applying for conductor and platform assistant roles, and hope to use this as the beginning of a journey towards becoming a train driver or CCTV operator for TFL or the British Transport Police.

4. If I manage to get a new job, I would love to be able to start saving a substantial amount of money to buy a house with my partner.

5. As a treat for getting this new job, I wish to make a start on my chest piece – a huge collage of studio ghibli awesomeness!

6. I would love to learn to embroider! I have had all of the stuff ready for a couple of months now, but I keep not getting around to it! This year I will start and hopefully finish my contemporary stitch sampler that I have been planning!

I feel like this is going to be a big year for me. I feel like this could be the year my life really starts moving!

Do you have any resolutions? Did you stick to last year’s?  Let me know!

A Quick Resolution Guide

Hey all. I hope you have all had a fab Christmas and are heading to some awesome new years parties. I am having a quiet one this year, cuddled up on the sofa with my other half with a handmade pizza. We got a bread maker for Christmas, courtesy of my other halfs dad. so we decided to make a pizza from scratch and it was blinding!

Anyways, I decided that since it was new years, I would give you a guide to making a few new years targets, that are achievable and should hopefully make 2015 your best year yet!

No 1. Learn A Silly Skill – promise yourself to learn a silly skill. Something that may not really be of use to you unless you end up on a quiz show, but just learn it for the sake of it! Once we leave school, we tend to be less interested in learning, but in order to keep our minds sharp, it is important to keep learning. So give yourself something to learn!

No 2. A Travel Resolution – Make a promise to yourself that you will travel somewhere new. It doesn’t have to be far away, you don’t have to leave the country, just go somewhere different.

No 3. Do Something That Scares You – Is there something in life that you are scared of. Well confront it – if you do it it will be less scary, and you will feel so much better for it!

No 4. Fix Something in your Life – If there is something in your life that is going wrong, address it. If you hate your job, make that step to doing something new. If you are worried about a medical issue, make that step to get it seen to. Make this the year that you don’t just go along with it, instead, make the steps to fix it.

No 5. Make A Career Goal – Make a commitment to improve your career prospects, to be better at your job, or to have a better chance at getting the job you want.

And it wouldn’t be right of me to tell you this and not share with you my goals, so here they are!

Let me know what resolutions you are making, I would love to know!
